The Poweshiek County Republican party has worked tirelessly to elect strong, conservative officials.
Dawn Driscoll, Iowa Senate - District 38
Dawn is a freshman senator, elected in 2020. Dawn is a sixth-generation farmer and a mother of three. She was the past president of the Iowa County Farm Bureau, and has been an active volunteer in her community, including chairman of the Ag in the Classroom program in schools and nursing homes, coaching volleyball and basketball, and being a religious education teacher, 4-H community leader, and a preschool board president.
Dawn has a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from Western Illinois University. Along with being a recruiter in the agriculture industry, she raises Angus cattle and farms with her family in rural Iowa County.
David Maxwell, Iowa House - District 76
Dave Maxwell is serving his fourth term in the Iowa House. Dave grew up in the Deep River area, graduated from Montezuma High School in 1961, worked for three years to earn money for college, and then attended the University of Northern Iowa and Iowa State University. College was curtailed because of the Vietnam War. He spent three years in the U.S. Army, one of them in Pleiku, Republic of Vietnam.
Upon returning to civilian life, he went into the farm tiling business with a cousin. In 1974, he decided to go into business for himself and Maxwell Tiling, Inc. continues today.
Maxwell has been an active member of LICA (Land Improvement Contractors of America) and has served as District Chairman, State Vice-President and State President. He is also a member of AGC of Iowa (Associated General Contractors).
He has been active in the United Church of Deep River for many years, currently serving as lay leader and is a Methodist “certified lay speaker.” He is a member of Legion Post 296 of Deep River and has served as Commander for the past seven years.
Dave and Kris have four children and ten grandchildren.
Missy Eilander, Poweshiek County Auditor
Missy is a lifelong Poweshiek County resident, growing up in Montezuma and graduated from Montezuma High School. She joined the Poweshiek County Auditor's Office in 2007 as Assistant Finance Director. She was elected Poweshiek County Auditor in 2016. She and her husband Mark live near Montezuma and have two daughters.
Sandy Ross, Poweshiek County Treasurer
Sandy was elected in March 2013 special election. She is a lifelong resident of Poweshiek County and graduated from Montezuma High School. She has been married to her husband Pete for 38 years. She has two sons and four grandchildren. Sandy lives in Montezuma.
Bart Klaver, Poweshiek County Attorney
Bart was elected Poweshiek County Attorney in 2018.
Merle Doty, Poweshiek County Supervisor
Merle was elected to the Poweshiek County Board of Supervisors in 2020.
